Q&A: How do you get human urine smell out of carpet?

Question by John Locke: How do you get human urine smell out of carpet?
So my new apartment is so dumb, the bathroom has a carpet. So naturally, it smells weird (from the previous tenant I guess)…urine, toilet water, whatever weird bathroom smells it picked up from the moisture in the air. How can I make the carpet smell better?
I tried powder deodorizers and they failed.
I heard alcohol works. Any thoughts?

I also recently moved into a house full of carpets and the smell was unbearable. We tried everything the only thing that worked was to rip out ALL of the carpets.I was so relieved when the smell was gone.Good luck.
P.S don’t be surprised if you have to bleach the floor underneath the carpet either.

Q&A: Removing stains from carpet?

Question by ♪♫ ßr0wn Eyǝd G!rl ツ ♥: Removing stains from carpet?
The carpet in my current apartment was never washed. I have a stingy Jew for a Landlord… what can I say? Anyway, I was wondering if there was something out there that anyone has tried which can remove stains off a carpet? I’ve tried a few things that I’ve bought at the supermarket but nothing seems to work. :(

Thanks!
Sorry if I offended anyone but I call them like I see them.

Answer by wylde95 A.R.T.
No need to tell us he’s a Jew. Just Stingy would have sufficed.
Go rent a Rug Doctor Steam cleaner, and you’d probably be within your rights to send him the bill. Call your local Housing Authority or City Council to find out such information.

How can I effectively remove pet urine stains that will be continuously re-curring in a room?

Question by Peter Griffin: How can I effectively remove pet urine stains that will be continuously re-curring in a room?
Yeah so I have this new pet rabbit that I like to let run around my room for exercise. I’m not sure I can keep him from peeing all the time on the carpet. I guess the question is, is there a way to keep my relatively nice carpet from being permanently badly stained? And if so, what can I use (what product)?

Do they have to be removed immediately?

Best answer:

Answer by Ryan D
Use the first link
It’s a link to a portable water induced vacuum cleaner. I have one at my house at the moment. I was amazed at how it works, because it ALWAYS picks up pee stains. Always. I would rate it my best buy for pee-stain vacuum cleaners, honestly. haha.

The second link is a good formula that my family and I have always used for our three current dogs (have had a total of six). It gets rid of the pee smell, and it would work for the pet rabbit too. This product cleans up stains nicely! We used it to clean our whole house in Kansas before we moved, as we discovered plenty of pee stains. It’s constantly used around my house today in California, just like we used it in Kansas.

You would prefer to remove the stain immediately.. at least within the first few days. If you let the stain sit, it will seep through the carpet and get into the pink/purple padding or insulation UNDER the carpet. Once it’s there, every time the carpet gets wet in some sort of way, or it is a hot day, you smell the horrible stench of it. It’s best to be expedient in the time spent with disposing of any animal’s pee stains in carpets.

Good luck!

What is the best product or home remedy for removing the odor of pet urine from carpeting?

Question by debmichelle1972: What is the best product or home remedy for removing the odor of pet urine from carpeting?
Our two puppies, Butterscotch & Chewbacca, are just now getting the hang of housebreaking. They are adorable, but have had SEVERAL accidents on our living room carpeting. We have cancelled get-togethers at our home because no matter how often we deep clean the carpet (every other day with an Oreck) or how quickly we get to the accident (we use the Bissell green machine right away every time!,) we can’t seem to get the smell out. It has permeated EVERYTHING. We know others who have dogs & they don’t have the same trouble, but we can’t seem to remedy it! HELP, PLEASE!!! Thanks!

You might try mixing some vinegar in warm water.
Get an old clean rag and wet it down in that mixture.
Wring out the rag and take the rag in and lightly rub
across where the urine and smell is quite a few times.
Wring out rag and dip it again and repeat process.
Then, you might dip your rag in a mild sudsy water
and go over the spot with this to kinda remove the
vinegar smell. It just might work.

removing pet urine odor from carpet?

Question by elderberry72: removing pet urine odor from carpet?
We just rented a house and the carpet has a very powerful urine smell. The landlord said he had the carpet cleaned and won’t pay more. Is there a way to remove the smell permently? I don’t want to mask the smell. i need a solution that really works and is cheap and effective. I see no visable stains just the super strong odor. I think it is berber carpet

Answer by Khayos
Get a black light to locate the problem areas.

But it could be that it was so soaked with urine it went underneath and affected the actual floor. If that’s the case it needs to be torn out and replaced. If your landlord refuses I would seek legal advice.

Anyway, if you can locate the problem with the black light soak it with a viengar/water solution (50.50 mix) and then sprinkle baking soda on it. Once it dries vacuum it up. That should solve your problem.

but like I said, if it’s gone through the carpet to the actual flooring you’re going have to demand more be done. That’s nasty, I hope you’re able to get it solved quickly!

Is there a 100% guaranteed way to remove pet urine stains and odors from carpet?

Question by : Is there a 100% guaranteed way to remove pet urine stains and odors from carpet?
Every site I look at with information on this topic seems to have a completely different explanation of exactly what works and what doesn’t. Is there a foolproof method for removing these stains and the associated odor?

Best answer:

Answer by Scamper
NOPE.

It depends upon the fabric.

Vomit is an acid and therefore it is neutralized with a base such as baking soda. Urine smell is neutralized with vinegar. The problem is that the fabric retains traces of the matter and this continues its natural decomposition process thereby releasing gasses which causes the offensive smell. If you go to a pet store you can buy an enzyme accelerator which, as the name suggests, adds enzymes and accelerates the decomposition process. When something has decomposed it does not smell anymore than the good old earth and dust.

As to the stains, again this depends upon the fabric. Some materials will retain a water ring mark if you clean them with water. Dye’s react differently depending on how much reactivity they have.

So the short answer is NOPE.
